It’s only a couple of months since the leaked product roadmap which laid Motorola’s portfolio of upcoming handsets, but its happened again with details on the brands’ portfolio plan that reaches into 2023. According to the roadmap, Motorola unsurprisingly has a bunch of devices being developed in the affordable, mid-range, and premium categories.
The leaked roadmap comes courtesy of 91Mobiles (via Evan Blass), and gives us the following look at what Motorola is cooking up for the next few months with a brief glance at it’s offerings in 2023.
Devon
‘Devon’ is a relatively modest handset that has 4G connectivity and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 chipset. It’s said to have a 6.49-inch LCD display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, along with 4/6GB of RAM and 64/128GB of built-in storage. It’s trio of rear cameras will reportedly consist of a 50MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP depth sensor, with a 16MP selfie camera housed in a punch-hole on the display. The Devon could launch soon after the unveiling of the Moto G22 (Hawaii+).
Tundra
The Tundra device is apparently aimed at the Chinese market and packs in 2021’s Snapdragon 888 chipset along with 6/8/12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128/256GB of internal storage. Its 6.55-inch curved POLED display sports an FHD+ resolution, and a 144Hz refresh rate. Besides the 32MP selfie camera, the Tundra is said to feature a 50MP main camera, a 13MP wide-angle/macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor on the rear. It’s expected to launch during Q3 of 2022.
Maui & Victoria
The Maui and Victoria are powered by MediaTek’s Helio G37 and the unannounced MT6879 (DImensity) chipsets, and are aimed at the entry-level and the top-end of the mid-range segments, respectively. The Maui has a 720p display, 3GB of RAM, and a rudimentary camera offering that consists of a 16MP main camera and a pair of 2MP sensors, along with a 5MP selfie camera. The Victoria, on the other hand, will be available with an FHD+ panel, a choice of 4/6/8GB of RAM and a much improved camera setup. While all configurations will feature an 8MP lens for wide-angle and depth-sensing duties, as well as a 2MP macro lens, the variant with just 4GB of RAM will have a 48MP main rear camera and the 6/8GB models will have a 108MP main camera. A 16MP selfie camera is present on all variants of the Victoria.
2023
While few specifics are known about Motorola’s 2023 line-up, it’s said that models with Bronco and Canyon codenames could form the backbone of the next generation of the Edge series. The Canyon is said to feature a 165Hz display and be powered on Qualomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset (to be announced in November), while the Bronco could make do with a current 8 series Snapdragon processor. Both devices should feature FHD+ displays, 8/12GB of RAM, and 50MP main rear cameras. While the Bronco makes do with a 13MP sensor for wide-angle and macro shots, and a 16MP selfie camera, the Canyon sports a much-improved line-up of a 50MP secondary rear camera for wide/macro functions and a 12MP telephoto lens, as well as a whopping 60MP selfie camera.
Beyond the Bronco and Canyon, Motorola is also said to be looking at announcing the ‘vertical rollable Felix’ and the Juno folding smartphone. If so, Motorola could soon have a much more exciting portfolio of devices, although anything can happen (with any of the handsets mentioned) before now and then.
